After our first experience with China, many tours around significant historic monuments and the first night transfer, we woke up in the most populous Chinese city, Shanghai. Already on the bus driving around the city, we noticed that the experience awaiting ahead will be different from that in the capital. We ended up surrounded by modern skyscrapers, multilevel roads and bridges. Due to attractions planned for our one day in Shanghai, we were getting familiar with Shanghai with kids-like happiness.

Birds-eye view of the city

In the morning, we kicked off the day with the cruise on the Huangpu River. As it separates the old Bund district from the new Pudong, we could enjoy the beauty of the famous skyscrapers. These include the Pearl Tower and the World Financial Center. As this building, called the “opener” is the tallest observation tower in China (474 m), we couldn’t miss its visit. The main lift took us to the 95th floor and the escalators to 97th floor. The next lift then brought us to the highest, 100th Floor. There was a lookout with glass walls and several glass tiles for a perfect birds-eye view of the situation below on the street. The city skyline was beautiful and the feeling of standing high above the city was priceless.

Maglev – 15 minutes on the fastest train in the world

We took the bus to get to another attraction. It is one of the China’s best – Maglev (magnetic levitation), the fastest train. For only 100 ¥ we got a return ticket for a 30 km trip to the airport. The ride took seven minutes and we felt like sitting in airplane in the curves. We all got startled when a train was passing by in the opposite direction. Since we’ve already enjoyed the city views, this time we focused on the speed indicator the most. Especially when we reached the maximum, 431 km/h.

We departed with Shanghai by an evening walk on Nanjing Road, Starbucks coffee and a view of the Radisson Hotel. There was a second night transfer and lots of fun ahead of us.
